Carly prides herself on being more aware of their shortcomings than the others - though that isn't saying much. She also seems to think that she's the most useful of the team, but one wouldn't call searching the minds of those with annoying jingles stuck in their head very useful.
Melanie tries her best to be kind because the world is full of so much hatred, but has no problem defending herself when needed. That flexibility might explain her powers, or at least her ability to phase through unlocked doors. It wouldn't explain why they have to be unlocked though.
It's hard for Shelby to stay focused on one thing at a time for many reasons - actually, she's just an airhead. She likes to blame that, and her inability to focus, on why she can only turn invisible when no one seems to be watching her. However, there is probably a longer list of personality flaws that would explain that better.
Benjamin loves being a superhero, which makes it hard to contain his excitement and overall enthusiasm for the job. That makes his powers a bit dangerous - particularly when he wants to test the 13% theory. Getting shot by your friends is a bad way to enjoy 13% invulnerability.
Often at odds with his friends' beliefs and plans, Jonah finds himself stronger alone. That belief only goes so far when his powers kick in and he finds himself floating off like a balloon, with comparable control to one. Maybe that is why he always gets into so much trouble on his own.
